Weekly Roundup #008

Weekly Roundup #008

Hey hey. It's been a much calmer week for me this week, as I was just back in Bristol, playing catch-up after being in Mexico for Paradiso festival. Not much to report really, been carrying on with some secret stuff during the day at Aards and then at night I'm busy developing the designs for the Beyond Tellerrand titles, the creative festival in Düsseldorf I'm speaking at in May.

Here's a sneak-peek of where I'm going with it: channeling my 2000's visual overload vibe and filtering it through the lens of bright colours!

On a bright-colours related note, I wanna give the packaging for the ModRetro Chromatic a shout-out! My good buddy James aka Signalnoise is the Art Director for the company and his packaging design for the Chromatic is ace, I love how much personality he's brought into the design. Bonus props for including the '90's S' there too!

Jane and Sully are actually locked in an ongoing battle for top of the leaderboard on Tetris at the minute. I can't compete though as I'm properly crap at it.

I've also been digging through my iPhoto archives to look for some images and I've unearthed some of these, erm, beauties from 20+ years ago...

Anyways, that's enough nonsense from me! Ta-ra for now,

Gav.

WHAT AM I PLAYING?

I don't really have any time for games at the minute, but I have found myself re-downloading Red Dead Redemption II. There's just something about that game that's beckoning me back. Maybe it's the allure of escaping the horrors of 2025 by riding horseback into the mountains and hanging out in virtual nature!?

Other than that, still obsessed with TCG Pocket and a little blast of Animal Crossing New Horizon every now and then (really hoping there's a new AC with the upcoming Switch 2!).

WHAT AM I LISTENING TO?

I re-downloaded the first Alan Partridge audiobook - I, PARTRIDGE - and spent the majority of my travel time this week snorting with laughter. I'd forgotten how bloody good it is, treat yourself to a sample below:

WHAT AM I WATCHING?

We watched Onward and Spies in Disguise for family movie night this weekend and they're both such underrated films.

Onwards in particular is such a sweet film plus the graphic design of the fantasy-origin world is excellent. In particular I love the design of the patches on Barley's vest, I managed to find these BTS designs on Instagram by Pixar artist Paul Conrad:

I also watched the new Metallica immersive film on Vision Pro and it was flipping amazing! It genuinely feels like you're there at the concert, on-stage and next to the action. The breakdown / riff-ey bit in the middle of 'One' was particularly awesome!

WHAT'S CAUGHT MY EYE?

A first-person-shooter from the studio that brought us CONTROL and Alan Wake, in the same connected universe as those two, where you fight telekentic post-it notes!? Count me in!
