Weekly Roundup #004

What a week! Blimey! First up some mega exciting news from Aardman... Wallace & Gromit Vengeance Most Fowl won TWO BAFTA's this weekend!! It picked up a pair of golden masks for 'Best Animated Film' and 'Children's & Family Film'!
The whole studio is so over the moon, and I'm so thrilled for Nick, Merlin, Beeky and all my friends at Aards! BAFTA is such an institution, so to be nominated is one thing, but to collect two awards is just incredible. So proud of everyone, and so honoured to have been a part of the crew on the movie too. ❤️

In other news, I was in Dundee at the start of the week, giving a talk & workshop at the beautiful V&A museum. I was there to talk about the wonder of stop frame animation, to chat to teachers & educators about how magical it is but also how surprisingly easy it is to get into, especially as a taster for students. All you need is a smartphone or tablet, the Aardman 'Animator' app and something to animate - modelling clay, Lego, toys, fruit, a human - anything goes! It was so lush talking about animation but then handing the room a bunch of iPads and clay and seeing everyone start animating immediately! It's so natural for folk to just get stuck in, it's always great to see!

Then it was back to the studio and cracking on with all sorts of stuff! Lots of fun things but sadly all top secret, more on that another day!
In my passion project time I'm now fully in the swing of designing the title sequence for the upcoming Beyond Tellerrand conference in Düsseldorf, which I'm also lucky enough to be speaking at:

For the titles I'm going all in on my love for the early days of digital design and web 1.0 culture. I'm channeling k10k, designiskinky, 2advanced, the designers republic and more, all through the lens of my David Carson-loving 20-year-old-self back in 2002! It's been so freeing just playing and experimenting, throwing things on an artboard. This is one of my moodboards that's helping remind me of that visual-overload style I love so much:

Anyways, best crack on. Hope you're well well and enjoying the lighter, longer days we're getting a taste of now!
Cheersen,
Gav.
